Lunch at Edgar’s Grille

I finally made it to Edgar’s Grille for lunch the other day. What a treat! Great service and good food.

I had the Korean Beef and my friend Greg had the Shrimp Po Boy. The Korean Beef was a perfect lunch serving with a good mix of salty and sweet.

Greg said the sandwich was very tasty with super fresh bread. He also commented on the unique way to serve the fries (in a glass) and that it was just the right amount.

For dessert, I had to try the bread pudding. It is really hard for me to say no to a dessert that is served on fire.

The Donut Hole

We love donuts! And really, who doesn’t? Rather than argue whether Krispy Kreme or Dunkin’ Donuts is better – check out The Donut Hole – a locally owned donut shop right across the river in North Augusta. Just add coffee and voila! – you’ve got breakfast.

If you have not been…run…don’t walk!  It’s a super cute little donut bakery on Martintown Road in North Augusta that makes the best donuts around hands down!

I bought one of the Augusta Chronicle Daily Deals a while back and just have not been able to get there in time before they close.  The day I went, I had an early morning errand to run and since it was national Donut day, The Donut Hole was also on my list.  I had my two little ones with me and of course we can’t go anywhere without them wanting to check out a bathroom (or two) and, of course, they always choose the most inopportune times.  The owner was kind enough to allow us to use his “not public restroom” in the back of the store and we were able to get a quick glimpse of the kitchen, which was spotlessly clean and sparkling (something about a grungy space makes me not want to eat there no matter how awesome the food is).  We didn’t get there until 10:30 and he still had a good variety freshly stocked and waiting for us.  I normally stick with my regular blueberry cake donut and the kids get their sprinkles, but since we had a full dozen to pick out with our certificate, we chose an assortment of donuts.  The kids still loved the sprinkle, but my favorites were the vanilla iced and strawberry filled donut and the apple str…yum, yum!!

My two complaints: 1. They are so stinkin’ good that you can’t eat just one…2. The only location is in North Augusta which is too far away from me to go for breakfast EVERY DAY!  I guess those two complaints work hand in hand then…since I can’t eat just one, I probably should not be eating them every day anyways!  If you get a chance to stop in and order one or a dozen, you will not be disappointed!!

The Final Countdown

When we heard, we cried a little inside. No more carrot cake at Thanksgiving. No more red velvet at Christmas....

Unless you order now and freeze it for later! If you're a huge fan of VeryVera casseroles and cakes and you just can't live without them, then make sure you order before June 26th! Orders can be placed online at www.veryvera.com .

Vera shows off her signature icing technique for Atlanta planners and writers in 2011.

Vera will be taking at least a year off from her restaurant and catering business to work on a cookbook (which we're sure is going to be fabulous!) and we can't wait to get our hands on it. Fingers crossed that she re-opens a cafe in 2014! Bobby Flay better watch out - because with a year to perfect all of her recipes, Vera may just want to "throw down" again!

If you're in town before June 26th, make sure you stop by Vera's Cafe for lunch!

VeryVera Cafe

3113 Washington Road, Augusta Ga

Open: Monday - Friday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
