DiChickO’s Peri-Peri Café in Augusta, Georgia

What a wonderful lunch. I have to tell you I was a little skeptical when Miriam suggested this great little café inside an Augusta health food store. I said sure, but was pretty sure I would need to stop for a milkshake on the way home. It was great and such a pleasant surprise.

We ate at DiChickO’s inside the New Life Natural Foods store in Augusta. You enter through the store, but tucked away in the back is a cute little café with tables and booths. You order at the counter and seat yourself.

With an uncanny talent, I was able to pick out one of the highest calorie sandwiches without even looking at the nutritional info. I ordered the Turkey Avocado Melt – fantastic! The serving was large and came with your choice of sides. Half the sandwich would have been perfect for lunch, but it was so tasty I eat the entire thing. There was even a cookie.

Miriam had the Peri-Peri Flap – that is a grilled wrap. It also looked super tasty. No sodas here. But I did not miss them. Their unsweet and sweet tea were very fresh and tasty.

So if your friends invite you to dine at the health food store – don’t be scared. I really enjoyed my lunch at DiChickO’s Peri-Peri Café in the New Life Natural Food in Augusta, Georgia.

WifeSaver

The commercial says, ‘WifeSaver you’re a life saver…Put a little South in your Mouth!’. And it is so true! The other day my friends and I were craving some good Southern food for lunch, so we headed down the street and picked up WifeSaver for lunch. WifeSaver is a local chain in the Augusta area, known for comfort food, fried chicken and banana pudding.

Stacey and I both had kid’s meals with chicken strips, which was more than enough for lunch and Iman tried the fried chicken combo.  Everything was really delicious! The chicken strips are my favorite in town, because they are so fresh tasting and flaky.  The tea is also to die for, sweet and ice cold!

WifeSaver also has plenty of options if you need food catered for an event, or even if you’re just taking home food to your family for supper. Everything is tasty and quick!  Next time you’re in town, stop by the nearest WifeSaver for some chicken and banana pudding. You can thank me later!

Mellow Mushroom

One of my favorite lunch spots in downtown Augusta is the Mellow Mushroom! Not only do they have the best pizza in town in my opinion, they offer great service and a quick lunch menu.

I usually get the slice and salad offered on their lunch menu.  This is the best of both worlds-a treat and something healthy. It’s one of the best cheap, quick lunches in town! I also enjoy the garlic pretzels with marinara sauce. They come straight to your table warm from the oven and drizzled with a little bit of Parmesan and butter, and they’re so good!

Whether you have little time, or as much time as you want, make sure to pay Mellow Mushroom a visit! Enjoy!!

Antonio’s Italian Eatery

I consider myself a bit of a pizza aficionado…maybe a ‘pizza addict’ is a better way to put it. Either way, I love pizza and all Italian food, really. So I was really excited to see a new restaurant open up in North Augusta.  Right across the river from downtown Augusta, Antonio’s Italian Eatery did not disappoint!  I visited the first time with several of my coworkers, including a few New Yorkers, who are also very serious about their pizza and they loved it.

It has now become one of my favorite lunch spots for many reasons.  They offer several different ‘slice specials’ during lunchtime and service is fairly quick so you can get in and get out and get back to work.  You really can’t beat two slices and a drink for less than $6, and they aren’t tiny slices, either!  A couple of weeks ago I went with a friend of mine and two of her kids.  They loved it, too, although I’ve never met a kid that didn’t like pizza!

Antonio’s has a great location downtown with a friendly atmosphere. I can’t wait to visit again and try some more of their Italian specialties like spaghetti & meatballs and lasagna!

100 Years of the Partridge Inn in Augusta

One of the most unique places to stay in Augusta is the Partridge Inn. Originally built as a private residence and eventually renovated to be the hotel that it is today, the Partridge Inn displays true Southern Hospitality.  Their Sunday brunch is raved about nearly as much as their attention to detail and feeling of ‘home away from home’ that they offer each and every guest.

Last week, we had the opportunity to take part in the 100 Year Celebration Luncheon of the Partridge Inn. It is amazing to think that this Augusta landmark has been around an entire century.  Everyone at our table was saying how much they wished the walls could talk, since there’s no telling what they have seen in 100 years including many Masters weeks and numerous weddings and celebrations.

Lunch was delicious! We enjoyed their famous fried chicken along with some sweet tea and bread pudding for dessert, which is always a treat. As a part of the celebration, various organizations in Augusta were invited to bring an item for the Partridge Inn time capsule to be opened after the next hundred years.  Each person who had something to put in the box explained what they were putting into the time capsule  was and told everyone their favorite Partridge Inn memory.  There were all sorts of items put into the box: a declaration from the Mayor, vintage photographs from the earlier days of the hotel, and  a copy of the April issue of Augusta Magazine, which always features the Masters Tournament.  The CVB decided to place a visitor guide and a few  other local brochures in the box.  Maybe in another 100 years the folks who open the box will be curious to see what tourists were interested in during 2010!

The 100 Year Celebration will be ongoing throughout all of 2010 at  the hotel. If you have never stayed at the Partridge Inn you are missing out.  Even if you are a local and aren’t looking for somewhere to spend the night, you should stop by for lunch or Jazz Night sometime-you won’t regret it!
