Augusta Futurity at the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Georgia

The Augusta Futurity is a fantastic event that comes to Augusta, Georgia every January. It is a first-class World Championship event for cutting horse competitors. But it is also fun for the kids.

This year I took William, 4, and Jacob, 2, to the Friday Night Event at the James Brown Arena in downtown Augusta. This is the night for the 5/6 Year-Old Classic Non-Pro and Open Finals. Do not ask me what the means – but I think it has something to do with the age of the horse.

At any rate, we actually went earlier to see the Area 18 Youth Scholarship Finals. These are riders under the age of 18 competing for a scholarship. It was great fun. We got to see boys and girls ride horses and cut the cows. Click here to see a little bit of the action! The youngest rider we saw was 10 years old and he did great. William enjoyed watching the kids compete.  Jacob was more into the popcorn. He is two – what can I say?

Before the competition began there were several cowboys settling the herd. This is when William leaned over to me and said, “Mom, some of those cows are wearing earrings.” He was dead serious and I had to laugh.

On the way out we stopped at several vendors and checked out the fun stuff they had to offer. Lots of great cowboy boots, hats, saddles and jewelry. William and Jacob loved the local hand carved statues. And of course the tractors – they are boys.

Be sure to make plans to attend the Augusta Futurity in Augusta, Georgia at the end of January every year. And bring the family!

Carrie Underwood in Augusta

What happens when you have a sold out show for one of the most famous country music stars in the heart of downtown Augusta? You get CARRIE UNDERWOOD in concert at the James Brown Arena! My best friend Crystal and I headed out for Girls Night Out in downtown Augusta to see our favorite female country singer, right here in our hometown! We were in our cowgirl boots and ready to sing all of Carrie’s songs out loud.

Carrie put on an outstanding show with great props, costume changes, and lots of screaming fans that filled the arena. This was definitely one of the best acts that has been to James Brown Arena this year. What a great show and a great time we had. Just another fun night out in Augusta! We are already looking forward to country stars and hometown heroes Lady Antebellum, coming to Augusta in November!!!

Monster Truck Show

Are you ready to RUUUUUUUUMMMMMMBBBBBBLLLLLLEEE?  Did you bring your ear plugs?  Because you’ll definitely need them at the Monster Truck show that my family and I recently attended at the James Brown Arena in Augusta.

There’s never a shortage of things to do with your family in Augusta, and this Monster Truck, Freestyle Motorcross, ATV, and BMX show was certainly an example of that.  My husband, my 16 year old step-son, Matt, and our 6 year old son Brandon had a blast watching these incredible machines smash old jalopies to smithereens. The boys, couldn’t take their eyes off of (not me, some of the time I covered my eyes it was so dangerous) the motorcycle and ATV riders as they took death defying leaps into the air, flipping from one ramp to another and even doing handstands on the handlebars.  The skill of the BMX bikers was incredible as they powered over ramps, jumped over a girl sitting in a chair, and made their bikes bend in their hands like silly-putty.

The entire show was really family friendly.  After it ended the riders signed hundreds of autographs for kids and fans of all ages.  Of course the popcorn and Coke was a treat and the company of our neighbors in the seats nearby was great!

We’ve still got the earplugs, ready for the next time we’re ready for the roar of monster trucks, the sweet smell of exhaust and the awesome aroma of burning tires!

"Greatest Show on Earth!"

Who says you have to be a kid to attend the “Greatest Show on Earth?!” Well, my fiancé, and I joined our neighbors for a fun filled night at the circus at the James Brown Arena downtown.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus made its way to town, and what a great show they put on! From the incredible acrobats, elephants, tigers, to the cats and dogs-it was a great time for everyone!

I will say that I remembered it quite differently as a child- but it was still a great night out in downtown Augusta! There are always many different types of events going on in Augusta-and the circus is one I’m glad we didn’t miss!!

Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean at the James Brown Arena

Last weekend my fiancé, my best friend, her husband and I went to a country concert here in Augusta. We went to see Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean at the James Brown Arena- what an awesome show!!!

The place was sold out and downtown Augusta was packed!!! The show lasted for about three hours and was full of energy. It was a great time with friends and running into a few people we knew.

Seeing downtown Augusta full of people of all ages was really exciting. This was a great show for everyone! I’m looking forward to many more great shows coming to the James Brown Arena and The Bell Auditorium this year-and my personal favorite, artist Carrie Underwood in May!
