DCTheatreScene.com calls Witness for the Prosecution “a six-course meal of a play, a lip-smacking, eye-rolling, stomach-rumbling grand buffet of – wait for it – vintage fifties, English-style murder. It is… so full of twists and turns that it might have been dreamed up by – Agatha Christie. And it was!” See it at Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre. $40 per person gets you dinner and a show – you can’t beat that!

Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder

September 14

The Morris Museum of Art kicks off their 10^th anniversary Southern Soul and Song series with bluegrass legends Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder. In a video we saw recently to promote the show, a woman says “That Ricky Scaggs, I love him more than my luggage.” See him live at the Imperial Theatre and we’re sure you’ll love him too.

Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival

September 14 – 16

Three days packed with awesome food and beer, live performances and locally created art and crafts. You can eat, shop, wander around and see performances on three different stages and eat some more – all in the heart of downtown Augusta. It doesn’t get much cooler than that. { See video }

Put on your bow tie and suspenders and head to Stillwater TapRoom for a night of throwback fun. Blair Crimmins and the Hookers bring back the 20s vibe with their brassy tunes and catchy lyrics. Luckily, you can enjoy a cold beer with your prohibition-era music. Now, get busy learning the Charleston.

Evening of Festivities

September 29

Symphony Orchestra Augusta begins an exciting season with Evening of Festivities. Join Music Director Shizuo Z Kuwahara and SOA as they explore Latin themes from the Old World to the New World featuring guitarist Jason Vieaux. If you’ve never heard a symphony live, you definitely don’t want to miss this.

I got to see a random act of culture on the streets of Augusta this past Tuesday. A group  from out of town called the 6th Floor Trio set up below the Imperial Theatre marquee and played for an hour before moving on to the Riverwalk to play some more. The concert was free and the trio encouraged anyone passing by on the street to stop and listen.

After a little research on the internet, I learned that people all over the United States are experiencing random acts of culture thanks to a grant program through the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. I’m talking opera performances in the Philadelphia Ikea, ballet performances at the Miami airport and brass quintet performances in the Macy’s in St. Paul. This movement is pretty cool and is kind of a big deal. I’ve got my fingers crossed that we see more random acts in Augusta very soon.

Le Chat Noir’s inappropriately humorous, irreverent and endearing retelling of the greatest story ever told explores what might have happened if the birth of Jesus had happened during modern times.

The Augusta Museum of History is hosting their first ever Polar Express for children this year! Kids dressed in pajamas will receive their very own golden ticket and will board a real train and hear the story of the Polar Express while munching on cookies and hot chocolate.

December 16

Another first for the holidays in Augusta is the Magic of Santa Claus Trolley Tour! The entire family can take a magical journey that includes a sightseeing trip to view the city Christmas lights of both Augusta and North Augusta with stops along the way to meet with Santa, Mrs. Claus and elves from the North Pole! Stay warm in the trolley with cookies and cider or coffee.

A holiday favorite returns this year at the Imperial Theatre – 12 Bands of Christmas is back and bringing some of the best local artists to one stage for the biggest musical Christmas party of the year! Just in time to see all the beautiful fall colors, take a hike through Phinizy Swamp this weekend for Swamp Saturday! A trained volunteer will guide you through an 2.5 mile hike through the trails at Phinizy. And best of all, it’s FREE! Make sure you bring your camera!

The clock has begun ticking down for the holidays and Christmas Made in the South is the perfect opportunity to get some early gift shopping done. All those hard to buy for friends and family will be happily surprised! One of our favorite things about Christmas Made in the South is the free samples – so your taste buds will be happy too!

 In the South, we take our annual Christmas pageants very seriously. Fort Gordon Dinner Theatre’s Christmas Belles takes an annual Christmas play, throws in three crazy sisters, a vengeful sheep, and a family secret to create one holiday show you won’t forget!

The holidays make us think of warm cookies, hot chocolate, fireplaces, beautiful decorations, caroling and family.  Savor the sounds, smells, and tastes of the season at Sacred Heart Cultural Center during the annual Holiday Open House.

 This Thanksgiving weekend, you can spend an evening with your family at the historic Imperial Theatre for a night of magic and sugar plum fairies during The Nutcracker. Dance Augusta’s grand production has become a local favorite and a holiday tradition in Augusta.
