French Market Grille

One of my favorite places to eat lunch in Augusta is French Market Grille. French Market Grille, located in Surrey Center, is locally owned and has been in operation for more than 26 years.

Jambalaya

They offer Louisiana-style dishes in a laid-back, casual atmosphere. You can dress up or wear your “comfortable” jeans. Everyone is welcome! It has been voted “Best Restaurant in Augusta” by the readers of Augusta Magazine for 17 years in a row.

Crepes Louisiana

The restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and caterers. It also has a full bar; I recommend trying one of their martinis or perhaps share a bottle of one of their many wines with a loved one. The Riesling is my personal favorite. French Market Grille also offers private dining for groups of 50 or less.

Crab Chop

A group of friends and I went there one Saturday for lunch and everyone was please with the friendly service, the selection of food and the reasonable prices. They truly have something for everyone!

Red Beans and Rice make a perfect appetizer!

If you are in town for the Masters and looking for a place to grab some great food you’ve found it. French Market Grille is located minutes from the Augusta National.

French Market Grille

On a recent Friday night, a friend and I decided to meet for dinner at the French Market Grille West. This is a great restaurant that offers delicious food, drinks, specials, friendly staff, and even entertainment.

They are known as a cajun restaurant with a casual atmosphere. They offer two locations, The French Market Grille, located in Surrey Center, and the French Market Grille West, located off of Fury’s Ferry Road.

Through dinner we enjoyed listening to the jazz music play as we ate our meal. I had the shrimp po boy-my personal favorite-and it never lets me down!

French Market also has specials every night of the week, so any night is a great time to check it out!. They were also voted  “Best Augusta Restaurant” 17 years in a row! Now that has to mean something-go out and visit!

French Market Grille and Shopping in Augusta

Just wanted to write a quick note about a lovely lunch today in Augusta. I went to the French Market Grille in Surrey Center. This is a great place for a Cajun meal. I did not sit at the raw bar today. I ordered the She Crab Soup and the Jambalaya. Fantastic! Not too heavy but a three course meal – including salad. Very filling and relaxing – as you can guess no kids today although this is a kid-friendly restaurant. Of course, they offered the famous peanut butter pie for dessert but knew that would put me over the edge and a nap would be required. And there was no napping, since I was heading next door to do a little shopping next. Talbots, the Toy Box, and the Estate Jewelry Center were all on my list. Julie at the Toy Box always has the best gifts for my boys and Joel at the Estate Jewelry Center always has the best gifts for me!

Art at Lunch

During December Carrie and I went to ‘Art at Lunch’ at the Morris Museum of Art. I had never been before, but am always up to try something new.  The Morris Museum is located right on the Riverwalk in Augusta and features art about the South and by Southern artists. This month’s Art at Lunch featured the work of Ansel Adams, who is one of my favorite photographers. He was a pioneer of photography, helping people to see photographs as art instead of merely a picture.  Adams was also a conservationist and a lot of his work features Yosemite and other U.S. National Parks.   Lunch was catered by the French Market Grille, one of Carrie’s favorite local restaurants.  They specialize in Cajun-style cooking with Louisiana flair.  We were treated to a delicious shrimp gumbo with salad and bread.  Their gumbo is fantastic, too!  If you’re looking for unique cuisine in Augusta, you should try one of their two locations in town.  While we were enjoying our lunch we learned all about the life and work of Ansel Adams, as well as other programs the Morris Museum offers. And, as a part of Art at Lunch, we also received coupons to the museum gift shop!  If you are interested in trying something new, you should definitely try Art at Lunch at the Morris Museum. It’s new every month and  this spring upcoming topics include the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and Historic Augusta in Photographs.  If you would like more information about Art at Lunch and upcoming events at the Morris Museum of Art, check out their calendar of events online. The Morris is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m.  Admission is only $3 to $5 to visit and free on Sundays!
