"Greatest Show on Earth!"

Who says you have to be a kid to attend the “Greatest Show on Earth?!” Well, my fiancé, and I joined our neighbors for a fun filled night at the circus at the James Brown Arena downtown.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus made its way to town, and what a great show they put on! From the incredible acrobats, elephants, tigers, to the cats and dogs-it was a great time for everyone!

I will say that I remembered it quite differently as a child- but it was still a great night out in downtown Augusta! There are always many different types of events going on in Augusta-and the circus is one I’m glad we didn’t miss!!

Playing Dress Up In Augusta

Talk about having a good time dressing up! If you need costumes for any occasion you should visit Costumes By Michelle, located at 1125 Broad Street. This is a wonderful place to experience history through costumes.  Michele is not only a wonderful designer, but she is a historian in her own right with a multitude of period costumes.

My daughter has an upcoming historic presentation at school. There are two third grade classes at her school, and each class will be putting on an exhibition of famous Americans during the 1800′s. Each child will be dressed as a character from this era. My daughter Kaitlin has chosen Mary Todd Lincoln who was the wife of the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln.

This is where Michele’s expertise came in to play.  She assisted my daughter in finding the appropriate costume to wear.  The costume that she will be wearing is a beautiful rose colored chiffon cream lace dress with a Victorian neckline. Accompanying the dress will be two gorgeous crinoline slips that will accentuate the fullness of the dress.  Her hat will match the dress with a big feather and lace, with a ribbon that ties under her chin with a big bow.  She will also carry a cream lace hand held fan for cooling herself as she models and explains who Mary Todd Lincoln was as a famous American.

Michele also proved her professionalism by amusing my 4 year old Lauren who was determined to try on every costume in the store.  She is a true professional with an enormous amount of patience with her clients, young and old. The entire process of finding a costume was a joyous experience.

National Barrel Horse Association World Championship Trick or Trot Evening at the James Brown Arena

On October 29, I took my kids and sister visiting from New Jersey to Trick or Trot Night at the National Barrel Horse Association World Championship in Augusta, Georgia. It was fabulous!!! Really hard to put into words how entertaining it was and how much fun we all had.

The NBHA hosts a week of fabulous competition in Augusta – but they take this one night off just to goof-off a little. They held a few demonstration races. Pitting countries against each other – Brazil had the fastest time making their way around three barrels. I think the time was less than 12 seconds. They put the cowgirls against cowboys – the girls won with the fastest time. Then they put out just one barrel with a bottle of soda on it. And in less than 8 seconds a rider was able to ride down pick up the bottle and return. It was so much fun to watch.

Between competitions – they played energetic music and these amazing tractors would race out and level the field. I am serious they were super super fast. The kids loved it. And did I mention kids and grown-up alike were encouraged to attend dressed-up. Then they could trick or treat with the show vendors. But back to the arena floor, I cannot forget to mention the one dancing cowboy who did a great job with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.

But to cap off the two hour show, which my kids did sit still for the entire time, was the Trick or Trot parade when horses and their owners came out in costume!! The boys loved it. My favorite was the horse dressed up like a giraffe. So creative. There was also a scuba diving horse with fish, Moss Man Horse, Bumble Bee Horse, Noah’s Ark horse…I guess you kinda have to see it but it was really funny. I stole a few photos off the Augusta Chronicle website to share. Thanks Chronicle. http://spotted.augusta.com/display.html?event=85891784

I encourage anyone in the Augusta, Georgia area to attend the NBHA Trick or Trot night. It was a perfect family fun night in Augusta. Heck this one is even worth traveling from New Jersey to see.
